About Me
Hi there! I’m Christy Kan, a reporter working at TVB Pearl News. My reporting is not limited to current affairs in Hong Kong but also includes the Southeast Asian region, such as I have to report breaking news taking place in mainland China and Taiwan. My interests are covering human stories and environmental stories which depict how hardworking the people are to make an impact or a change to create a better world.
I worked at i-Cable news as a feature story reporter who assist in producing 10-minute mini-documentary weekly. This role enables me to have many opportunities to work with different people from the news industries.
I am a graduate from the Master of Journalism programme at The University of Hong Kong who is passionate in multimedia journalism. I am also a former video journalist intern at the now-defunct Mizzima Media in Yangon, Myanmar and reporter intern at Coconuts Hong Kong.
My curiosity always led me to have constant reflections on everyday life — “what’s happening?”, “How could this happen?”, “What could we do to help?”, etc. These questions draw my attention to the news and have helped arouse my interest in journalism — a subject matter helps “unearthing” the answer and the truth.
Martin Luther King, Jr. once mentioned that “the function of education is to teach one to think intensively and to think critically… Intelligence plus character – that is the goal of true education” in his article “The Purpose of Education” published in 1947. His words make me believe in the educational value that journalism entails, i.e. helps train people to think critically and analytically. I look forward to developing my journalistic career and visual storytelling skills so that I can tell stories covering topics related to human beings, animal protection, environmental issues, public health, education, etc., which all pique my interests, to help the unspoken one to strive for their right to speak.
